Hi, please help if you can.
I had a support guy on the phone Friday who seemed to know exactly how to configure my gateway but shame on me, I was going out just then so I took a few notes of what I thought he told me.

I have a Sony Ericsson P900. I need to know first how that needs to be setup.
SMSC setup: At the moment I use a cable connecting to my notebook usb port but have noticed a selection Standard Modem over IR Link and selected that. Testing though gives me an error - Unable to initialize modem: Error 80000048 from lineOpen.

Anybody know what I need to do please???

thanks

ok managed to get a bluetooth connection going and gateway connects but comes back with a message
Modem does not support SMS - I used Standard 56000 bps V90 modem to achieve this.

Anyone know what is wrong?

Hi George,

Unfortunately, that is not completely wrong.

The SonyEricsson P900 does not implement the AT command set for sending SMS over the GSM modem interface. (Unfortunately, many of the so-called "smart phones" omit this type of SMS connectivity in one way or another. Nokia smart phones are at least a little better as they allow SMS sending, but they don't allow SMS receiving.)

Here is a link to a thread with discussions of alternative phones for use as a GSM modem:

thanks Bryce

that IS a shame - it is the only phone I have and I am staggered that these so called Smartphones do not support the AT command set - a little basic requirement in my view to be fully backward compatable.

However, if I have no alternative method of setting up your software then I have no option but to de-install. Shame - concept looked good.
