Hi NowSMS,

Can you please help me on this issue? I just added new GSM modem and I was able to add the modem with no problems. The system and NowSMS already recognized my GSM modem. But whenever I'm trying to send SMS it always says in the SMSOUT Error. I checked the Debug file and it says as below:

21:05:29:814 [4] ThreadProcessModem: OUT: 0001000B819071087227F700000BC8329BFD065DDF723619
21:05:32:188 [4] ThreadProcessModem: ERROR - Modem Response (2): ERROR
21:05:32:188 [4] ThreadProcessModem: Error: ERROR - Modem Response (2): ERROR

I tried sending an SMS to the new device to check if it can receive SMS and sadly it doesn't. Can anybody help?

Also, the new modem I am using is the same brand as my existing modems.

Thanks,
Pancho

Hi Pancho,

When the send attempt is made, the modem is responding with the text "ERROR".

As you have noted, that is unusual, because normally if there is a problem of this type, an error response would be a CMS ERROR code.

Some older modems only respond with generic ERROR responses, and if you search the older posts here, you'll see that our standard response is to verify that the SIM is active and inserted correctly, and for older modems, the SMSC number may need to be manually added to SMSGW.INI. It is very rare for the SMSC number to be required, and since it is the same model modem as others that are working, I don't think that would be the issue.

(Side note: We just moved web servers yesterday and one of the search links on the web site was broken. If you encountered that problem, I just fixed it.)

I'd start by swapping SIMs with a working modem. See if the problem follows the SIM or the modem. (Or it might fix itself if the issue is that the SIM is not making good contact with the modem.)

Hi Des,

I also tried calling the number and its responding so i think the sim is working fine? Do you need any file from me to pinpoint the problem?

Btw, i also checked the smsgw.ini and everything looks in order. The com ports are present with its corresponding cell number. Not sure where the error is coming from. Could be the modem is busted? But I was able to test and send query to the modem and it says its working.

Thanks

Hi Pancho,

Swap the SIM ... put the SIM into another modem or phone and verify it can send/receive SMS.

Also try a different SIM in the modem.

Enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG and restart NowSMS. As part of the modem init process, you'll see something like this:

09:56:07:804 [3] ThreadProcessModem: AT+COPS?
09:56:07:882 [3] ThreadProcessModem:
+COPS: 0,0,"vodafone UK"

OK

09:56:07:882 [3] ThreadProcessModem: AT+CSQ
09:56:07:960 [3] ThreadProcessModem:
+CSQ: 18,99

OK

These responses will confirm whether or not the modem is connecting to an operator.

It is very possible the modem is busted, but I'd suspect the SIM first...or an issue with the SIM contact in the modem. The above AT commands will tell whether or not the modem connects to an operator...but it is also important to test the SIM in another device for sending/receiving SMS.

Hi Des,

Thank you so much for your assistance. It appears you're right on the SIM issue.
