Hello,

I'm working in a MMS send/receive application so I have a wap-stack and MMS-library. I can send MMS with no problem (via PPP then UDP the wap-stack connects to mms-gateway and sends the coded MMS). The problem is receiving MMS.

When I'm disconnected (but attached) to the GPRS network, the only way to receive a notification of a incoming MMS (wap-push) is via SMS, isn't it?, so I set the AT+CNMI according to receive asyncronous notifications of incoming SMS. When I send a MMS to the GM862-GPRS modem (www.gm862.com), no notification is arriving and nothing happens.

Anybody had this problem? I'm doing the correct way?
Thank you in advance,
Antonio

Generally, you're going to see the notification over SMS regardless.

The +CNMI command can be flaky. What if you query the message list, did you receive any?

Have you confirmed that the MMSC is actually accepting your message submission and sending it?

Try sending to another phone/device ... does it receive the message you submit to the MMSC?

What happens when another phone/device sends an MMS message to your device/modem phone number ... any different behaviour?

Hello,

I did more tests. First I tried other SIM in order to check a provision problem from the operator (spanish TELEFONICA MOVISTAR). The same occurs I can send MMS but no notifications (via SMS).

Also I checked the message list with +CMGL and no SMS is received. I confirmed that the MMSC is accepting the message delivery because it accepts the message (response code) and if I send the SAME message to a MMS enabled phone instead of the modem, it receives its.

Also I installed your trial NowSMS-gateway and I can send MMS with the utility in the web page using the modem but it don't receives MMSs.

Is possible to remain all the time connected to the GPRS network (with a IP) and receive the wap-push via IP instead of SMS? If possible, how can I do that? Is necesary to register or send any message to the MMSC?

Thank you in advance,
Antonio

Hi Antonio,

Hmm ... that is a puzzler.

Are you receiving other SMS messages sucessfully with that modem?

What about sending other types of binary SMS messages to that modem, are they received successfully?

As for keeping the GPRS connection active so that you can receive the WAP push over IP ... it depends on how tightly integrated their MMSC is with their WAP gateway and the rest of the operator network.

Basically, it is going to be operator dependent. Theoretically, they could detect that you are already connected via GPRS and send the WAP push over IP ... but I'd be surprised to see this ... and I'd be hesitant to rely on it.

Hello,

I can receive binary SMS (and MMS wap pushes) with the modem.

I made a test program and generated a MMS wap push and sent it from the modem to a MMS capable handset (and received ok). Then I sent from the modem to the modem itself (because I only have a modem) and it received ok. So I think the problem is not the modem.

I sent a MMS message from the handset to the modem and received a SMS message (not binary) that says "visit http://multimedia.movistar.com/ blah blah in order to see the MMS".

This messaged arrived 5 hours later from the sending time. Other times I sent MMS from the handset to the modem and to other handsets and they arrived sometimes (others, they lost). So I think that the network operator may have problems with its MMSC.

The question is:

If the modem is GPRS capable, why received it a plain-text SMS of the indication instead of a binary one?

What can I check / do in order to notify the network operator (via SMS, wap, ??) to sent the modem binary SMS of the MMS indications?

Thank you very much!!

Antonio,

Put the SIM that you are using with the modem into an MMS compatible phone and verify that you can actually send and receive MMS messages using the phone, or whether you get this same SMS notification telling you to visit a web site.

It may be that you just need to get MMS activated for the SIM with your mobile operator.
