Hi, from a practical point of view is it meaningful to send an MMS message that contains no SMIL content. Only a multipart/mixed(or related) mime mail. I.e just text/plain and image/jpeg parts.. but no SMIL ? I realise from the Specification that MM1 allows it, but the phone I've been sending to (a Nokia camera thingy) doesn't like it at all 'Media type not recognised' .. But when I wrap the image/text up in a dummy SMIL document and include that as well, everything works fine and dandy ! Any ideas?

David, I'm curious. What phone are you sending to? If you're converting from e-mail to MMS, I think it is impractical to dynamically generate a SMIL component. We haven't been generating a SMIL in this type of situation, and I haven't heard of any problems (of course, I'm not sure this feature is that widely used) ... so I'm curious what type of phone it is that you're having a problem with. -bn

Bryce, Nokia 7650. Strangely it seems to be fine when the message is sent over MM7 ! (Although I can't get MSIL to work at all, NowSMS seems to truncate the message entirely!)

David, Sorry for the delay responding back to you. We do not monitor this particular area of the discussion board as frequently as the forums that have "Support" in the title. The Nokia 7650 definitely doesn't require SMIL. If you are having problems with NowSMS truncating an MM7 request, then I would suspect one of the following problems: 1.) The Content-length: parameter is shorter than it needs to be (causes the content to be truncated). 2.) You are encountering a bug in how NowSMS v5.0 handles binary content that includes a null character (unless you base64 encode it). A fix for this problem is included in the patch at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms5-patch3.zip. -bn |
