Hi
I am creating an smil file dynamically which has src tags for 8 images (gif files) and 8 text files. Then I use MMSComp to create the mms file. Another way I create it is using the Nokia MMS library. And I am using a Java program to upload this mms file to the web menu interface.

The message goes through OK and I see it on the cell phone. But the first problem is that last image and text file are dropped. All the gif and txt files are less than one KB. The total length of the mms file is aroung 10.2 KB. And the total content data sent thru the web interface is around 10.8 KB.

The second problem is that the message created using Nokia MMS library not only drops the last image and text files but also messes up the order of the image and text files. I am wondering if there is a problem for The MMS Server in reading the mms file created using Nokia Java MMS library.

I would really appreciate it if you could point out why the last 2 files are being dropped. When I open MMS file which is binary encoded in Hex mode, I can see the last image and text file names in the file.

As an update to the problem above, when I use the Nokia MMS library to create the mms file, when the message notification is sent thru the cell phone modem connection, the computer makes a beeping noise.
Previously the computer made this noise also when I sent an smil file without adding any image or txt files mentioned in the src tags, thru the web menu interface.

I tried sending various number of image and text files. All the image and text files went thru when the total number of these files was less than 12 (6 image and 6 text files) (total mms file size less than 9 kb). Once I send 7 image and 7 text files (total mms file size more than9 kb), the server starts dropping either the image or text files or both.

Without seeing the file, I have absolutely no idea what is going on.

When you send a pre-compiled MMS file through the gateway, it pretty much goes out to the phone untouched. Content adaptation might change some of the data if there are content types that are not supported. You can disable all content conversion on the "MMSC" page of the configuration dialog.

If you'd like me to look at a specific compiled MMS file to comment on it, please e-mail the file to nowsms@now.co.uk

Sharmila,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

I got the file.

I think what you're running into is limitations in the phones and how many parts to a message they can handle.

Your compiled message clearly had 17 parts to it, but the SonyEricsson T68i only sees 13 parts, and not the first 13 parts, which is quite confusing (especially as the SMIL file was the first part).

I think it is a case of the phone being overwhelmed by more message parts than it is expecting.

I tried a Panasonic GD87 as well, and it didn't see any content at all.

I really don't think it has anything to do with the server end ... it seems to be limitations on the MMS client side, just not being able to handle so many parts to a message and not handling it gracefully.
