Hi,

Does anybody aware of any MMS client running over HTTP instead of WAP. Specs say either WAP or HTTP can be used for MMS but I have not come across any client running over HTTP. Probably no phone has MMS-HTTP, but are there any PDAs which have this feature ?

Thanx in advance

The Nokia 6600 implements MMS over HTTP directly.

(It is causing some problems for operator setups at present, because most are not setup to be able to have the MMSC automatically identify the MSISDN of the phone in such a configuration.)

Hi Murali,

When an MMSC receives a request from a client, the request arrives over HTTP-TCP/IP.

The MMSC can only see the source IP address associated with the request. It cannot see the phone number.

In order for the MMSC to know the phone number, it has to be able to retrieve this information from the operator network.

Operators who have deployed MMSCs have already established the links that allow the MMSC to retrieve the MSISDN for clients that are using the WAP protocols, but they have not all established this for clients that connect using HTTP.

The following link talks about MSISDN identification when NowSMS is used as an MMSC, and that may provide some insight:
