Are you sure it's not just the phone? :)

Many phones are pretty lousy at playing back audio.

I assume you're asking about a configuration setting in the Now SMS/MMS Gateway, where it does automatic conversion.

The e-mail interface automatically converts from WAV to AMR when an e-mail message is received. You can disable that setting in the gateway on the MMSC page.

If that setting is disabled, the gateway will only convert from WAV to AMR when a phone indicates that it does not support WAV (most don't).

Note that a 20 second WAV file is well over 200K in size ... while a 20 second AMR file is typically around 25K. Many phones cannot handle extremely large messages ... so you can't push a very large WAV file to most phones even if they support WAV.

Yes its not a phone ....
cause if i send a WAV by IRDA (infrared) the quality is much better than if the sound be converted by The NowSMS

Can i convert i.e.:
only images but the sound will be original ?

(ve 7650 )

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear on my response.

Are you sending these WAV files in via the e-mail interface?

On the "MMSC" page of the configuration dialog, there is a configuration setting called "Enable E-Mail WAV to AMR" conversion. If you disable this setting, then we won't convert WAV to AMR when accepting inbound e-mail to route to MMS.

It also means that AMR is not converted to WAV in the other direction ... but it leaves the image routines in place.

No it can't. (Well, we could trick it by removing some support files that enable the audio conversions, but let's not do that unless it is a last resort.)

But keep in mind that this conversion should only be applied dynamically (aside from the e-mail to MMS conversions mentioned previously) when the user agent profile for a device indicates that the device does not support "audio/wav".

That said ... I see what your issue is. Nokia didn't publish a user agent profile for the 7650, so we created one based upon what we knew about the device. And we didn't list "audio/wav" as a supported MIME type.

Manually edit UAProf\Nok7650.xml, and underneath the line that reads:

<rdf:li>audio/amr</rdf:li>

Add:

<rdf:li>audio/wav</rdf:li>

That should clear up your problem.

I would suggest you flag that file read only so that if you install a subsequent update, it doesn't overwrite your change.
