Hi,

I have seen the WAP-MMS specs saying that a wap g/w with PPG is needed for the MMSC to push the MMS notification. Is it not possible to bypass the PPG if an MMSC has the capability to send an SMS and if it can form a connection-less WAP-PUSH PDU. With this ability, the MMSC can directly send the PUSH PDU over SMS to the desired MMS phone, thus avoiding another entity like PPG.

I feel the PPG is needed only when the MMSC does not have the ability to form the PUSH PDU.

Plz let me know if my assumptions are true.

Thanx in advance

Murali,

That is correct.

If you download our Now SMS/MMS Gateway product from this web site, you'll see that by default it generates its own WAP push PDU over SMS for the MMS notification. (Although it does have a configuration option for interfacing to a separate WAP push proxy gateway, which is necessary when running in non-GSM environments, such as using CDMA SMS for WAP push.)
