I'm not sure that I have the definitive answer to my question after reading through the message board. Here are my questions:

1. I would like to be able to send an MMS message from my POP3 e-mail (from my desktop) to a friends MMS account on his mobile phone. Is this possible?

2. If it is possible to do this, do I use the HTTP over TCP/IP SMSC connection type?

3. If I am to use HTTP over TCP/IP connection type, what values do I fill in under:
URL Template Text
URL Template Binary
Host Name
Port Number

4. If it is not possible to use a POP3 account..is there a way to send an MMS message from my desktop computer, if I dont have a GSM modem?

In summary all I am trying to accomplish is to send a .midi type file from my desktop computer to a mobile phones MMS account. Can this be done?

thanks

you can use SMTP to send MMS, MM4 interface is for it. as a recommend, you should use MM7 interface, which is also to send mms without GSM modem.
Good Luck!

Huh? Not quite sure I am understanding. Is it MM4 interface or MM7 interface? Where do I find these interfaces?

Anyone else have any input?

Hi Dan,

It sounds like your question is somewhat specific to the NowSMS product.

I think yanxh is looking at this from a more general perspective. (And it also assumes that you could get an MM7 account with your mobile operator which can be a bit of a challenge in most parts of the world.)

While you could use NowSMS to set things up, you would need an account with an SMS service provider, or a GSM modem in order to make things work. (You ask about the connection details, and those are specific to the provider that you are connecting to.)

Your e-mail address in the profile looks like a US e-mail address. Is your friend on T-Mobile? If so, you can send an e-mail to phonenumber@voicestream.net (there's a newer domain name that I can't remember, but the voicestream.net domain still works). I'm not sure if the other providers have such a link.

The e-mail to SMS/MMS capability is more standard in the US than outside of the US. The reason for this is because in the US, both sender and receiver usually pay for an SMS or MMS. In most of the rest of the world, the sender pays but it is free to the receiver. As there is no way to charge an e-mail sender, the providers typically do not offer such a facility.
