Hi, could you clarify your question.

Are you looking for information about the NowMMS.com service (which only supports phone-to-phone MMS and an e-mail to phone MMS gateway)?

Or are you trying to send MMS notifications out using the Now SMS/MMS Gateway.

When you use the Now SMS/MMS Gateway to send an MMS notification, you are telling the gateway that you have a URL on another content server which contains a precompiled MMS message file that you wish to send to a mobile device. In this mode, the Now SMS/MMS Gateway validates that the URL does indeed point to a pre-compiled MMS message file, and it then sends an MMS notification out to the mobile device, telling the mobile device to specify the URL referenced in the notification.

If this is not what you are trying to do ... if instead you have some pieces of content (image files, etc.), that you wish to send as an MMS message to a device, then you'd want to use the "Send MMS Message" function in the Now SMS/MMS Gateway, which takes individual file objects and compiles them into MMS message file to send to a mobile device, with the MMSC component of the gateway acting as the content server.

I am developing celluar phone for europe. But I am lived in korea. so I can't test mms test(receive,send) in our nation. because GSM/GPRS network is not supported in korea.
So, now I already installed nowsms.com in my desktop pc. I want to test mms send/receive using my pc. Please let me know how to set nowsms program. If you have a refer document about how to test mms using nowsms, where can I find it?

Shin,

It is very tough doing this without a live network.

The problem is that the MMS notification message is normally sent to a mobile phone over SMS. So how do you simulate SMS in a desktop PC environment?

We have had customers who defined an "SMSC" interface in NowSMS which pointed to their own custom HTTP service. When NowSMS wants to send an SMS message, it calls the HTTP SMSC interface, and the customer configured this interface as a URL to an HTTP script which reformatted the SMS message into an appropriate format be inserted into their test network/simulator.

This can be difficult to do, but it is possible.

If you need more explanation on this, I can attempt to clarify. But basically, the "SMSC" interface in NowSMS is how NowSMS submits an SMS message into the network. One of the options here is an "HTTP" based interface. Here you can define a URL, and when NowSMS has an SMS message to send out, it will call this URL with the details of the message parameters. You could write an HTTP script that reformats the SMS message, and posts it into your simulator.

You may also want to talk to your employer about network test equipment. We have phone manufacturers that use NowSMS in conjunction with test equipment from Agilent and Anite. Those companies provide test equipment that can simulate a GSM/GPRS network.

many thanks. Bryce
We have anite test equipment, so we will try it for mms test. By the way, I wonder how to service mms message with your s/w(nowsms.exe). where can I find some network structure with nowsms? I don't understand how can mms service do with Anite and nowsms.

Hi.
We have anite test equipment. But I don't know how to configure nowsms program. Now, I installed nowsms program at test pc connected anite equipment.
After running nowsms, I can see the SMSC connection Type. For GSM Phone or Modem type, I connect Our GSM phone to test pc with serial cable. After that, select suitable com port of select available modem, and click Test and Add Modem, but there is only error message, "unable to access modem, ensure that it is powered on and passes diagnostic tests". Also, for http over TCP/IP type, I put values as follows.
===============================================
Host Name:mms.now.co.uk
Port Number:8888
User Name:skippy
Password:skippy
Server Type:Now SMS
URL Template Text:/?PhoneNumber=@@PhoneNumber@@&Text=@@Text@@
URL Template Binary:/?PhoneNumber=@@PhoneNumber@@&Binary=1&Data=@@Data@@&UDH=@@UDH@@&pid=@@pi d@@&dcs=@@dcs@@
=============================================

But,There also is an error message,"Unable to connect to server mms.now.co.uk:8888"

How can I test mms with nowsms program?

Make sure that you can actually talk to the modem over using the Windows Hyperterminal. (After opening a connection to the com port, try typing in ATZ and pressing Enter ... the modem should respond back with OK if it is indeed connected.)

If Hyperterminal can talk to the modem, then I would expect NowSMS to get further (it might display a different error if the modem does not support SMS).

If Hyperterminal cannot talk to the modem, then there is something wrong with the cable, the phone/modem, or the COM port to which it is connected.

It would also be helpful if you mentioned what type of phone you were attempting to use, as we may have some additional information on that phone model.

As for the HTTP over TCP/IP settings. You need to have an account with a service provider. The settings that you have typed in appear to be examples from the documentation of the type of data that would be entered into the different fields. They will not connect you to an SMS service provider.
