Hi, Assume I have NowSMS running with a GPRS modem attached and that I want to receive MMS messages. What does this cost? I know the message arrives in 2 segments - a locator and the content itself. I understand the locator is free but does it cost me to connect over GPRS and download the content?

regards, Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

Sorry for the delay in reply ... this section of the forum is labeled "not for Now Product Support", and I do monitor the questions here as frequently.

The answer is that it depends on your mobile operator.

Different mobile operators have different strategies.

Some charge for GPRS data access to send or receive MMS ... some do not.

Generally speaking, if the mobile operator has a separate GPRS APN for MMS than for WAP or internet traffic, then this is because their policy is that they do not charge for GPRS traffic on the MMS APN.

It's really a question that you need to ask your mobile operator. Don't confuse them by talking about doing it via a modem ... the same issue applies if it is a phone that is retrieving the MMS message. (Of course, in this day and age, I'm not convinced that you can necessarily find a customer service representative with a major mobile operator that could give you the correct answer.)

Some mobile operators do have more sophisticated billing systems that filter out MMS data traffic, even if it goes through a WAP APN ... so just because they don't use a separate APN doesn't necessarily mean that they do charge for the data traffic.
