Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this..

I am trying to send an MMS message to my mobile.

The Mobile is a Sharp GX-10 on Vodafone.

Here is the flow of what I'm doing:

1) Take content file (MIDI, JPEG or MMF file) and compile it as an MMS file using MMSCOMP. I'm only having 1 content file per MMS file (to simplify things)
2) Upload this MMS file to a web server, which has the correct MIME type set up for this file
3) Using NowSMS gateway I'm sending an MMS notification to the phone in question.

Now that all works fine, and the phone receives the message OK (MIDIs Play, JPEGs are displayed) .. EXCEPT when I use an MMF file as the content file...The message arrives to the phone alright, and it seems to retrieve it, except that the phone returns an ERROR on the content file...

I have tried various different MMF files
1) Using Yahama's SMAF ATS-MA2 tool to convert a SMF to a SMAF file - ERROR!!
2) Using Yahama's SMAF WCS-MA2 tool to convert a WAV to a SMAF file - ERROR!!
3) Sending a SMAF file composed ON THE SAME HANDSET, to an email address, and extracting the mmf file - ERROR!
4) Sending a SMAF WAV FROM THE SAME HANDSET (downloaded from Vodafone's website), to an email address, and extracting the mmf file - ERROR!

Now I realise that this at first seems to be an issue with the handset in question, but I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on anything else that might be causing this.. The fact that the phone rejects MMS files compiled from MMFs that originated from itself is strange.

Can anyone help explain what's going on?
Cheers,
Rob.

Here are the link to the MMS files i was trying. I'd appreciate it if anyone could try them on their phones, and let me know if they work. They contain (or should do) MA2 compliant SMAF files:

http://www.redrawrecords.com/candy.MMS
http://www.redrawrecords.com/eminem.MMS
http://www.redrawrecords.com/chili.MMS

Rob,

I don't have a Sharp phone to test.

But how about this as an interesting test ...

Configure the phone to use NowSMS as its MMSC. Try sending a message with a SMAF from the phone to itself with NowSMS as the MMSC.

Then look at the resulting MMS data file created in the MMSCDATA subdirectory for the transaction.

Does that work?

If so, we can look to see what is different.

Hi Bryce,

Thanks for the reply. I'm having a few problems setting my phone up to use NowSMS as the MMSC, and I was wondering if you could give me a hand.

In the MMS settings on the phone, there are a few options:

1) IP address (I just set this to the IP address of the machine running NowSMS)
2) Relay Server URL (Left blank)
3) Port Number (9201)
4) Connection type (GPRS)

GPRS settings:
1) APN (left blank)
2) UserName (set to "rob")
3) Password (set to "rob")
4) Linger Time (30)

In NowSMS I have setup an MMSC user ("rob" password "rob") with the phone number of my phone (does this have to be in any specific format? I've just typed it in as +447720xxxxxx). I have also set the MMSC port number to 9201.

I don't have a firewall on my machine.

The phone can't seem to connect to the MMSC. Is there anything I've got set up wrong, or anything else I need to do to get it working?

Many thanks,
Rob.

OK, I've sorted this now.. It turned out that the MMS message wasn't being compiled correctly (my fault - i had copied MMSCOMP.EXE and cw3230mt.dll into the directory where the mmf files were, and i didn't copy mmsctype.ini).

So, my compiled files are working! Woohoo!

I would like to know how to connect to the NowSMS MMSC with my phone though, so if you could still help me out there, that'd be cool.

Cheers,
Rob.

@ Rob,

I also tried to send me compiled SMAF Files and it's not working at all. Is there really a possibility to send self-composed MMS (with SMAF) to a GX10?
