Hi Kiran, Mobile phones submit messages to an MMSC using HTTP over a TCP/IP connection. Almost all phones today do not make the MMSC connection directly, instead they go through a WAP gateway. Mobile phones use the WSP (Wireless Session Protocol) over UDP/IP to communicate with a WAP gateway, as defined in the WAP protocols. The WAP gateway then converts WSP to HTTP to issue a request to the MMSC. (The WAP gateway also frequently is used to tell the MMSC the phone number of a phone that is making a request of the MMSC.) To notify a mobile phone that it has received an MMS message, the MMSC sends a WAP push message (usually over SMS) to the mobile phone. The MMSC requires a connection to a WAP push proxy gateway, or a direct SMS link in order to be able to send out this MMS notification. When the gateway receives the MMS notification, the notification contains a URL pointer, and the phone retrieves the MMS message content from the MMSC via HTTP (usually WSP converted by a WAP gateway). -bn |
