Hi, I don't know if this has been asked before but I was previously unable to send SMS messages due to +CMS ERROR :330 (service center unknown). And i can't find any prompt to enter the service center number. I was finally able to send SMS messages after setting up the MMSC's local host name or IP address. My question is...How are the SMS messages able to be sent without a service center number? It seems the SMS's are being sent through the MMSC services(in my case).I thought SMS's and MMS's use totally different routes? Thanks in advance BR Ander

Hi Ander, Apologies for the delay in response. That is a puzzler. In most installations, it is not necessary to configure a service center number. The reason for this is because the SMSC number is provisioned on the SIM card, and the modem should automatically read it from the SIM card. However, some early 3G chipsets (and some very old modems) do not automatically read the SMSC from the SIM card. For these situations, it is possible to manually define the SMSC. Here is a link that describes it: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/13469.html In your case, it is odd that you were unable to send SMS messages until defining the MMSC parameters. You are correct, sending SMS goes through a completely different route. I suspect that some action that was taken to establish the MMS connection was enough to force the modem to read the SMSC setting from the SIM card. -- Des NowSMS Support

Thanks for clearing things up. Because most PC mobile tools had the option to manually enter the SMSC number,I thought it was a priority issue. Well, as long as it works |
