hi, i am relaying to my mmsc via SMTP and have defined my "Domain Name for MMS E-Mail" to be in the form of host.domain.com, not just domain.com. i've configured sendmain on another machine to relay to this host.

my messages seem to be getting to the server.. i can see in the MMSC log the SMTPIN record...and he name of the .req file and can see the file that gets created in the MMSCDATA folder, however the message does not get deliverd to the phone.

MMS from the web interface works fine, and the exact email works fine with an ericsson MMSC.

the other thing that is interesting is that emails to alias@host.domain.com get rejected by the smtp server and i see REJECTED in the MMSC log, but emails to +MSISDN@host.domain.com get accepted.

are subdomains allowed, and any other clues as to why this doesn't get sent to the phone?

Hi,

That is very puzzling.

If you see MMSCDATA files being created, and REQ files being created, then those messages should get routed just the same as if submitted by the web interface.

I've also never seen a situation where a defined MMSC alias name was not supported, but the MSISDN was. (On the system that I am defined to, I always receive my MMS e-mail via the alias name.)

I think the best way to troubleshoot this would be to ask you to put the system into debug mode, and e-mail the log files to nowsms@now.co.uk so that we can look them over.

Manually edit SMSGW.INI, and add Debug=Yes under the [SMSGW] section header. Do the same thing with MMSC.INI under the [MMSC] section header.

Then e-mail SMSDEBUG.LOG and MMSCDEBUG.LOG. (Also, if you are using an SMPP connection, there will be an SMPPDEBUG.LOG that would be helpful, or UCPDEBUG.LOG for UCP/EMI.)

the debug info helped me solve this problem...the problem was our SMPP provider takes MSISDN without the "+" sign...because of doc, our MSISDN-user map included the "+" sign, so the SMPP was not getting delivered. it worked from the web page because we knew not to put the "+" sign in.

you might want to make a note in the doc to put the map in international format, but according to the rules of the SMPP provider, as this gets passed through without modification.

thanks!

Crawford,

That is puzzling. When we submit a message via SMPP, the "+" doesn't go into the message (although this does affect the setting of the address type field).

Is it actually an SMPP interface that you're connecting to, or is it an HTTP interface? (We did an an option in recent releases to strip the "+" on HTTP connections.)

In any event, glad it got sorted!

I want to send/receive MMS message from my computer. Is there any specific modem for this. If yes please let me about it.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Johnson,

You need a GSM modem to be able to send out messages.

A GSM modem is either a dedicated GSM modem device (like a Wavecom Fastrack or Siemens MC35 or even a Sierra Wireless AirCard which is PCMCIA), or it is a GSM phone that uses a serial cable, USB cable, infrared or bluetooth link to a computer?

If you use a GSM phone as the GSM modem ... then this is going to sound the opposite of what you would think ... then in order to receive MMS messages over the modem you must use a mobile phone that does not support WAP push or MMS. This is because the WAP push or MMS client will intercept MMS messages and they will not be accessible via the GSM modem interface. (Basically, as far as phones go, an old Nokia 7110 that does not support WAP push works good for this.)

While most operator MMS services do not allow you to send from e-mail to MMS ... most do allow you to send from MMS to e-mail. Just compose an MMS message and enter an e-mail address as the recipient.
