Hi,

I'm new to MMS. In SMIL specification, there defines a element. But I don't understand how to use it. Can anyone give some explanations and examples?

Thanks first.

Liang,

I haven't seen any real world use of this element yet. But my understanding is that that this element would be used to embed something like a Java applet into an MMS SMIL presentation ... similar to how the img, audio and text elements are in very widespread use today for embedding images, audio and text into SMIL presentations.

Hi Bryce,

I found an explanation from SMIL1.0.

Authors, however, should make sure that the group into which of the media object falls (animation, audio, img, video, text or textstream) is reflected in the element name. This is in order to increase the readability of the SMIL document. When in doubt about the group of a media object, authors should use the generic "ref" element. (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) 1.0 Specification )

For example, if i don't know whether a 'src.ext' is an image, or a text, or an audio, the line will be 'ref src='src.ext' ... '. it's the viewer to decide the type.
