When I send out an testing MMS by NowSMS, I do receive the MMS notification (I saw a rotating envelope in my Nokia 6100), however the phone doesn't prompt "Multimedia Message Received" afterwards, and it seems nothing happened.. no error messages. I am sure the .mms file is in my content server (port 80). I tried to access the .mms file by WAP directly. After downloading it my phone did nothing, seems nothing happened. What should I do??

Kelvin,

Take a look at the suggestions in this thread:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/228.html

And check the MMS settings on the mobile phone. Quite a few operators have setup separate GPRS APNs for MMS related traffic, and they block access to external MMSCs. (So the MMS notification will only be accepted if the URL points to a message on the operator MMSC.)

You could try setting the GPRS APN and WAP Gateway IP configured for MMS on the phone to match the settings for the WAP browser.

NowSMS v5 has ways that you can submit an MMS message through the operator MMSC over a GPRS modem.

I found these threads helpful on setting up the MMS connection over a GPRS modem:

thanks for your detail info, marc.
I have changed my MMS APN to the normal WAP APN, however it still have nothing appear except the spinning envelope.. so I am thinking whether my .mms files has any problem. I tried to compile my mms file by
1. Nokia Mobile Internet Tool Kit 4.0
2. MMSCOMP in NowSMS
both act the same...
then I tried to access the .mms file directly typing the URL in the wap browser. I has no response also. No error message, nothing received! Anybody has any idea?

thanks,
Kelvin

Kelvin,

You should not expect to be able to access your ".mms" file by typing the URL into the browser.

The compiled ".mms" file is in "m-retrieve-conf" format, and the phone doesn't know what to do with it unless it receives a notification first.

Where I'd start for trying to figure out what is going on is determining whether or not any requests get made of your web server that is hosting the ".mms" file after your notification is sent.

If your web server does not receive a request for the ".mms" file, then this would suggest:

1.) The MMS notification message itself is corrupt (or does not specify the correct URL).

2.) A connectivity issue prevents the MMS client from connecting to the URL (GPRS APN or WAP Gateway issue). Try verifying that the WAP Browser can fetch a WML file from the same content server using the same GPRS APN and WAP Gateway.
