We are getting alarm from our monitoring system. we are using solarwinds to monitor the NowWAP(proxy) process and a couple of minutes ago, solarwinds reported that the process was down and then up. Looking in the Service Status the process has 22 hours being active. I want to ask, where can I find and check the logs for process down in NOW WAP Proxy? Do you have any suggestion about how to monitor this ? or how we can solve this false-positives monitoring messages?

Hi Ronald, I have zero experience with the monitoring software that you are using. I also don't know what exactly it is monitoring, or how it determines that there is a problem. In other words, I don't know if I'm trying to support the monitoring software, or if there is a legitimate problem. Perhaps if you can explain more about what exactly this monitoring software is configured to monitor, maybe I will have a better understanding. Also, what "service status" says the process has 22 hours being active? What is the version number of NowWAP? What are typical activity levels that you observe for NowWAP? -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Des, Thanks for the reply. We use solarwinds Application monitoring, <http://www.solarwinds.com/products/orion/application_monitor/> http://www.solarwinds.com/products/orion/application_monitor/ this software uses WMI to perform the monitoring. The service status : 22 hours active --> is in the GUI They have installed the latest version of NowWAP Anyway, Can you just suggest a better way to monitor the NoWWAP Process on the server ? thanks ronaldo

Hi Ronaldo, I am not an expert in monitoring software. However, in previous jobs, I have relied on "port monitoring" types of software. The benefit of monitoring like this is that you are actively checking to see that the hardware and software are both active. If the computer or operating system fails, you can also know about this. In this case the monitoring software actually runs on a separate system, and you tell it the test to see if it can connect to TCP/IP ports on the other system. More elaborate software understands some of the protocols so it can have a better idea of whether or not the server is actually functioning properly. I haven't used any of these products in a few years, but I recall that one of the more popular products was called "What's Up?" -- Des NowSMS Support
