Dear all, I have just downloaded the nowsms gateway and am trying to add an SMSC connection as "GSM Phone or Modem" type. I have a SonyEricsson P910 phone connected to the PC via the USB. Now SMS is finding two com ports which when tested is unable to contact the device. I tried bluetooth connectivity, in this case it came back with some error. I saw somewhere that SE 900 series will not work, so I tested with a PocketPC phone connected again via USB (through ActiveSync) but the gateway is unable to detect the phone as well. My basic doubts are: - How am I going to specify the USB ports while the gateway is only seem to be finding COM ports - What do I need to ensure in these devices to make sure that they will be able to work fine i.e., their connections to the PC, the device data sending/receiving capabilities etc. - Will I be able to send WAP Push messages to other phones in USA given the carrier restrictions and all Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. | |||

Hi, I don't think USB is your issue, as much as neither of the phones that you are trying support a GSM modem interface. Similar to the P800/P900/P910, Pocket PC phones do not provide a GSM modem interface. In order to be accessible as a modem, a device needs to be accessible via a COM port (real or virtual). If the device isn't accessible via a COM port in this way, then it can't claim to be a modem. Generally, if you have a device that supports USB, then it is going to have a driver that makes it accessible via a virtual COM port. (The driver either comes with the cable, or can be downloaded from the phone manufacturer web site.) Bluetooth is not a problem, because the Bluetooth driver provides a virtual COM port that you use. But you won't get anywhere with either of the above devices. For whatever reason, the "smart phones" are more limited than mid-tier phones in terms of GSM modem support. See the following thread for discussions of phones that work or do not work as modems: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/4218.html |
