Hi All,

I have posted a question few days ago on provisioning smartcard, but no one replied. I have done some testing on the same topic which i would like to share with u all.

At present most of the newly released handsets which supports MMS, Browsing have the preconfigured Network accessing settings in them.
These preconfigured settings are those which are used to access the resources from the Internet or the WAP resources. Ex: Browser,MMS.

One thing that raise a doubt to the user who observe this is "Whether this data is directly programmed to phone's memory or it is read from the SIM card when he first inserted it"?

I would like to explain one test case that i did to confirm the same thing.

"I'm using Nokia 6681 mobile and the SIM card from the Airtel(Network operator). At first my mobile have the settings from various service providers(Airtel, Hutch, BSNL.........operators from India) when i bought the mobile.

I have deleted all these web session setitngs and replaced the Airtel SIM card with the SIM card from Hutch. Now because the Network code is changed(which is identified from IMSI) my mobile started showing the web sessions from Hutch. Now i again repeated the procedure by replacing the Hutch SIM back with the Airtel. Now again the network is changed so my mobile started showing Airtel web sessions along with Hutch web sessions which are loaded previously into the mobile's memory. But If i replace the SIM with the other from the same operator then it is not happening."

I'm guess that these settings are not hard coded because the settings vary with the region/location and the mobile manufacturer cannot hardcode all these settings at for all the regions.

But From where these settings have come? Are they from SIM card or they come by OTA?

If it is by OTA then my mobile should show some sort of notification that i received the provisioning document, which is not the case.

And why it is happening only when the network is changed?

Please any one who knows the reason comment on this.

Thanks & Regards,
Prathi.
