Am i right in thinking if i get the message "GPRS Connection not available", that i have to ring up my service provider to enable it on my sim? (02 uk)

Ive just bought a nokia 6100, with Free WAP entitlement from 02, (UK) on my old sim, and ive configured the service and mms settings appropriately according to 02 Active's requirements.

im guessing thats where im going wrong? i cant see how else i can get it to work.

cheers.

You probably will need to ring them. The one thing that I'll mention is that you do need to make sure that you have the username and password configured properly for access to the APN. The normal GPRS APN is "wap.o2.co.uk", with a username of "o2wap", and a password of "password". The WAP gateway IP is "193.113.200.195".

I believe that there may be a different APN if you are on a pre-pay plan, so if you are on a pre-pay, check the O2 web site for details.

But if you can't connect with those settings, you'll probably have to ring them. Seems like they have some crazy bureacracy in their system (a friend of mine has GPRS on his account, and according to O2, he can't have both GPRS and MMS, he can only have one or the other).

Thanks for the response!

You are right about 02. i rang them up to see if they could enable it on my phone but they said they cant, as i am on an offer they are trying to wipe out/discontinue (old BT Genie sim card only, with 50 minutes off peak free per day and 600 free txts per month, all for £10 a month--you can see why they are trying to get rid! Tough!), and the sim card apparantly doesnt support it. (GPRS or MMS)

I find that strange, and rather poor service as when i signed up to the account 2 years ago i was told i would recieve free wap. Ive had to change the service settings to the default GSM 02Wap settings, which is really slow, and i have to pay by the minute. (10p) I find their service to be out of order as GPRS is on a pay per download policy only, so the browising is free. so whats their problem?! contradicting themselves.

It's a bureacratic mess. In a competitive environment, you would think they would be more flexible toward customers.

I've just changed my phone & I want to enable WAP as you say O2's web site sends GPRS settings which won't connect. I tried the NOKIA web site GSM settings but that is using a different phone number which I assume will be charged for. The old BT Genie site had instructions for setting up WAP manually does anyone have the settings for the 91500 number My BT Genie contract is 100 mins anytime + free wap + free txt for a tenner a month I don't want to change it. Thanks Richard

I spoke to someone in a shop and they said that O2 HAVE to upgrade your account to GPRS enabled, if it means getting a new Sim card then so be it, they can send out updated sims which allow gprs. O2s "online-based" service is a pile of cack and i keep getting sent round in circles, seriously annoying me

hey I have an "online based" pay monthly genie contract similar to those mentioned, with the same GPRS problem. If O2 have to upgrade GPRS settings by sending out updated sims, how do I go about gettin an upgrade? I'm sick of accessing WAP at a speed of 9600 on a GPRS phone!}

Danny,

If the phone supports WAP push "service load" messages (I'm not sure if the Nokia 6100 does or not), then it is possible to send a WAP push message that automatically loads the browser and tells it to go to a specific URL.

Many phones only support "service indication" WAP push, where the phone displays a prompt that must be confirmed before connecting to the URL, because "service load" can be abused.

Hi All, Nokia 6310i's are well known for incoming calls sounding as if your caller is under water/in a bucket! This is only in one area of our network provider (Spacefon, Western Region, Ghana). No other phones suffer like this model, which works perfectly well elsewhere in Ghana on the Spacefon network. Spacefon declines to acknowledge the problem - rumour control amongst the many business users has it that it is a sensitivity problem with the tri-band receiver or poor tuning of the transmission signal. Other Nokia models do not suffer, nor do other manufacturers. Can anyone suggest a course of action (I cannot find a website to contact Nokia themselves), and can the tri-band availability be disabled as a test? I would really appreciate some help.

can someone please tell me if there is a way to DISABLE my nokia 6100 from saving sent text messages?

i've looked at my phone's menus and options, as well as read through the manual, but it doesn't say how.

i find it a hassle to have to delete my sent messages from time to time.

I bought a SIM card from India's reputed public sector telephone service provider and got it GPRS / WAP enabled. Intention was to insert into an energy meter which can then be used for remote metering. I find that the meter from a reputed brand, whose technology is proven in Europe, does not seem to respond at all. Are there some peculiar setting issues? How do I verify whether the SIM card is properly enabled or not for GPRS & WAP?

ok what you need to do is go to o2's website http://www.o2.co.uk and register and that lot then go onto from the home page go to o2 active then on the top right it will say get settings now on that page theres loads of choices but the best would be the top 1 called o2 active tht sends all the settings to your phone ad guides you through what to do
