Sending images to a mobile

I've set up a couple of simple WML/WAP pages displaying some text and a few images. What I'd like to be able to do offer downloadable images. I thought it would have been simple but it's not. What code do you use to send an image to a mobile? I take it it's not as simple as making an <a href= link to the image on the server.

In layman's terms, can anyone tell me how to do it? I've searched high and low for an explanation, but to no avail.

I have a couple of pages set up too, and I'd like to add some downloadable content... Can someone help me out, just point me on the right direction :-(
