I'm currently using the Android app to send MMS however I'm unable to throttle the speed or limit the amount sent. I've entered my requirements under the "Restrictions" section and verified the setting was added to SMSGW.ini. In addition I also stopped/started service.

Is the daily message limit and speed limit possible when sending MMS via the Android app?

Hi Todd,

No, unfortunately that setting applies to SMS only.

I agree that it would make sense to have similar settings for MMS, or to apply those settings in aggregate for both SMS and MMS.

I'll need to refer this to our engineering team for further investigation.

Thanks for the reply Des. Is there any other work-around I can implement within NowSMS that will throttle the speed and/or limit of MMS?
Without a throttle or limit in place my SIMs are going down on the first day of service.

Thanks

Hi Todd,

There is no support for a daily limit or monthly limit at this time. But I did forget that there is a throttle that forces a wait between MMS messages.

Outbound message throttling limits are supported for sending messages via external "MMSC Routing" connections (e.g., MM7, MM4, MM1, EAIF). These limits can be defined by manually editing the VASPOUT\routename\VASP.INI file, and under the [VASP] header, adding SendLimit=x/y where "x" is the number of messages that can be sent over a "y" second interval. If "y" is omitted, a value of "1" is assumed. For example, SendLimit=3 limits the connection to a speed of 3 messages per second (1/3 second pause). SendLimit=1/5 limits the connection to a speed of 1 message every 5 seconds (5 second pause).

Note that if you are sending to multiple recipients, this limit is per each recipient group. So you would need to set both MaxRecips=1 and SendLimit=1/5 to do 1 recipient every 5 seconds.

Hi Team,

Does this work in the Linux NowSMS NextGen? I do not see any VASP.INI files.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,

In NowSMS NextGen, the VASP.INI settings have been consolidated into MMSC.INI. Each outbound MMSC connection has a [VASPOUT-name] section that contains any settings. (Similarly, there is a [VASPIN-name] section for inbound MMSC connections.)

The same SendLimit=x/y setting can be applied to a [VASPOUT-name] section that will exist in MMSC.INI..

Note that SMS and MMS are throttled separately.

With this said, however, we are planning to consolidate this functionality in a future update (most likely in the next 2 weeks). Modem connections will share the limits/restrictions on SMS and apply them to MMS. The throttling rate may still apply to SMS and MMS independently (our team is still reviewing), but settings like daily and monthly limits will apply to combined totals of SMS and MMS.

No word yet on whether any of this will make it into an update of the current Windows NowSMS, or whether it will wait until a Windows version of NextGen.
