Hi, I'm trying to develop a service that sends people introductions via MMS - we have a Sierra Wireless AirCard 750, AT&T service, and are using the Nokia 6600. The setup for sending and receiving mms messages on the Nokia phones turned out to use only a homepage (mmsc.mobile.attwireless.net), a proxy server address (010.250.250.050), and a proxy port number (8080).
I've spent some time looking over the following help page:
http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/mms_notifications_and_c ontent/Connecting_to_operator_MMSC.htm#SendingMMSMessages
but I haven yet to get this thing working properly. Any quick help would be much appreciated! (testing connection always fails…)

As a follow-on, listing the server address as: mmsc.mobile.attwireless.net and the wap gateway address as 10.250.250.55
makes a sucessful test. Unfortunately on the device, I'm getting a message from AT&T wireless saying "your device can't support this message" - despite the fact that both phones and send each other MMS messages fine. Tried both sending the message as MM1 and EAIF.

Hi Nathan,

I'm a little confused by a couple of statements in your messages ... but that might just be due to the fact that it is Monday.

I've done some searching on the MMSC that AT&T Wireless is using, and found that they perform some content adaptation, where if the message includes a MIME part that they think the phone does not understand, it inserts text into the message like you describe.

What is the content that you are trying to send as an MMS message.

If you include a text part and an image part in the message, what do you receive on the phone?

It would probably help me understand some if I could see a debug log. In this case, let's go ahead and enable all of the debug logs.

Edit SMSGW.INI, and add Debug=Yes under the [SMSGW] header.

Edit MMSC.INI, and add Debug=Yes under the [MMSC] header.

Create a file named MMSWAP.INI in the NowSMS directory, and put the following content in that file:

[MMSWAP]
Debug=Yes

Restart the NowSMS services, and repeat your attempt to send.

Then e-mail me (nowsms@now.co.uk) or post here the SMSDEBUG.LOG, MMSCDEBUG.LOG and MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG files.

Hi Bryce,
So I gave up on the AT&T MMSC and am running the nowSMS MMSC (internal). That seems to work fine. (HURRAH!) However, the server seems to be *really* flakey - there are many times it doesn't recognize the Sierra Wireless card (error 80000018 from lineGetID). This removes it from the list. Trying to add it again gives me the same hardware error. However, despite having no modem assigned, nowSMS (sometimes) still operates and I can send SMS messages. (?) When this is the case I go into the Phone and Modem settings and verify the modem is attached to COM3, (and can sucessfully querry the modem if nowSMS isn't running). Several times it said that the modem is operating properly - so I reinstalled the drivers - perhaps I'm using the wrong drivers - or maybe the AT&T watcher software is the issue? (when I was using the T-mobile it seemed to be slightly more robust)

When nowSMS isn't working, I typically have to pull the card out and reinsert it. Sometimes I power down the watcher (which does the same thing?) - and 70% of the time it works. Although recently nowSMS doesn't list the Sierra Wireless card as a modem option, but rather just lets me select COM3. After this happens I press test and get an initial dialogue box that appears saying the modem has been initialized for a specific speed, and then another one saying successful test.

I'm not sure how hopefully any of these descriptions are, but if you have any ideas how to make this more robust please let me know. Or if there is any other information that could help you figure out what the problem is, please email me directly as well.

thank you very much.
-nathan.

Hi Nathan,

I should have mentioned that direct MMSC route as an option (it is cheaper, and is an option for AT&T Wireless).

I definitely recommend running the Sierra card without Watcher, and you may want to update your firmware.

Here's a thread with some recommendations on configuring the Aircard 750:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/485/2265.html

Since you're not using the GPRS function to connect to an MMSC (just the SMS functionality), you don't need to configure it to connect automatically to a GPRS APN.

But otherwise, the suggestions in that thread are good, and I would suggest updated firmware, and running without Watcher.

As for the "80000018" error, that is a generic error. I get this 80000018 error on my PC if either an external modem is not attached to the cable, or if another application has the COM port open (only one application can have a COM port active at a time).

After you receive this error, if you went into "Query Modem" in the Control Panel (under "Phone and Modem Options"/"Modems"/"Properties"/"Diagnostics"), I would expect Windows to also report an error. But it might provide more detail about the problem ... for example if another application has the port open, it would indicate that (and then you'd need to do some determination to figure out what application is opening the port to the modem ... I had one of my systems where Nokia PC Suite was installed and it kept on grabbing all of the ports everytime I inserted a PC card).

I would suspect another application has the modem open (some modems ship with extra software for interfacing with the modem, and that could be in the way), or that something has gone wrong with the modem driver definition in the Control Panel (like maybe it has changed ports for some reason).

In your case, there is no harm configuring NowSMS to connect to the COM port directly (e.g., select COM3 or whatever the appropriate COM port number is). We usually recommend going through a modem driver when using GPRS functionality on a modem ... but we use GPRS differently on an Aircard, so this is not an issue for your configuration, even if you start trying to talk to the operator MMSC over GPRS again.

Just purchased a Motorola A668 in Hong Kong and brought it back here to the US. I put in my ATT Wireless SIM card and everything works fine, except that I cannot send MMS messages. Can anyone help me figure out how to set up the phone to send/receive pictures?

The MMS settings are different for every mobile operator.

And the menus for configuring these settings on to the mobile phone varies for every mobile phone.

You might find better advice in one of the more general mobile phone support forums:

http://forums.attwireless.com
http://www.esato.com
http://www.howardforums.com

This forum is support for the Now SMS/MMS Gateway product.

Good luck!

I can tell you that the following should be the required settings, but how you configure them in your particular phone, I don't know. Confusing things even more, often times different phone models use different terminology to refer to the same settings.

MMS Server URL: http://mmsc.mobile.attwireless.net/
WAP Gateway IP: 10.250.250.100
GPRS APN: proxy
Login Name & Password: (not required)

Hello,
I have a couple of Nokia 3120 cell phones. My wife and I were wondering how we can increase the volume when we are using the phones? We can bearly hear the caller now.

I'm certain that you would find better information elsewhere, as this is the support forum for the Now SMS/MMS Gateway product.

A good place to start would be the user manual for the Nokia 3120, which can be found on-line at the Nokia web site. The following link will get you there:

http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/3120

(I did a Google search on Nokia 3120, and the above was the first item in the search results.)

I believe that you push left or right on the scroll wheel to adjust the volume on that phone (or maybe it is up and down).
