Hi,

We are running v2010.05.07 and we have set a limit of 300KB nationwide. Yet, I regularly see messages well exceeding 300KB routed to MM4 IW routes. I can't find any MMS larger than 300KB when the recipient belongs to direct route.

Hi Davor,

How much larger?

Message sizes can vary across different message formats.

In particular, when a message gets transmitted over MM4, binary content (such as images), gets BASE64 encoded.

I believe this adds 33% overhead. If memory serves me correctly, every 3 bytes of binary content become 4 bytes when it is BASE64 encoded.

Does that sound like what you are seeing?

Hi Des,

Well the largest exceeding is exactly 36.8%, so it could be BASE64 encoding. I will make a couple of practical tests and check the size on MM1 vs MM4 sides.

Thank you for your help for now.

Hi Des,

I just made a thorough check of debug and Wireshark log and you are absolutely right about the source of the "problem".

Thank you for your prompt answer. Case closed.
