NowSMS, Some months ago, I inquired about service_type routes for the SMSC. I am now in need of a routing option for MMSC. Since I have multiple applications, it is difficult for me to setup a MMS Route to an application based on destination number alone(same destination number can be used elsewhere). Is there an option that I can use in defining a MMS Route, similar to the SMSC "service_type=", for use with MMS messages?

Hi Frank, There is no concept of a service type in MMS, nor any similar type of attribute. The only solution that I can think of is routing based upon the submitting user account ... assuming that the submitting user account is using MM7 or MM4/SMTP. In the "MMSC VASP" definition, use "Force via Defined Route" to specify the outbound route to be used by all messages that arrive via this account. This will only work if you don't need to combine this type of routing with country code based routing. If you need more complexity, you'd need to implement an MMS routing callback, as described here: http://www.nowsms.com/mobile-number-portability-mnp-and-the-nowsms-mmsc -- Des NowSMS Support

If I am doing mms via url submission, can routing also be accomplished this way?

Can the applications that need the special routing use a fixed sender address (MMSFROM)? NowSMS will look for a match of this address against the "Default Sender Address" for an MMS route.

Des, No, we want the application to use true sender/recipient numbers. If I perform a mms via url submission, can I use the VASP account to route to the desired MMS route?

Frank, Unfortunately, there is no parameter for specifying the MMSC route when submitting via URL parameters. This interface uses a sort of "back door" into the MMSC, so it can't make use of the forced routing associated with MMSC VASP accounts. I'm going to ask our engineering team if there are any other options, because unfortunately I do not see any. -- Des NowSMS Support |
