After downloading Nowsms and mms gateway we proceeded to connect with our network of choice at 196.6.131.156:1060 and the above error was displayed (unable to connect to SMPP server 196.6.131.156:1060). We sort help from Nowsms for Mirror image of Nowsms configuration against our network binding login. Nowsms responded timeously with the mirror image and we tried the new setup, again the error was the same as above. We notified the network for failure to bind with them and they proposed 'pre-shared key route', at this point Nowsms reiterated that pre-shared key had nothing to do with Nowsms. We are desperate to bind with our network. We use 1024 Kbps WIMAX (prost 3.3G TDD V-P) for our Internet connection and the router RB 750G. The default gateway connecting Nowsms is 192.168.88.1 and the IP location is 41.76.23.6 on our server.

What is the significance of the 'pre-shared key' and what role does it play in the dillemma we are facing? We are currently waiting for the test window to be renewed and try binding login again.

Hi Martyr,

For your reference, your previous discussions with us were here: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/69986.html.

You never mentioned this error in that thread, so I am uncertain what conversation you are referring to. (However, I do agree that any discussion of 'pre-shared key' has nothing to do with NowSMS. More on that shortly.)

"unable to connect to SMPP server 196.6.131.156:1060" means that a TCP/IP connection could not be established to this address.

This is before any actual SMPP protocol exchange takes place.

It means that there is a physical connectivity problem. No TCP/IP connectivity path exists between your system and that server. Most likely it is blocked by a firewall either on your end or the other end.

If you used some other software, on the same machine as NowSMS, you would encounter the same problem.

Regarding the pre-shared key. I do not understand what this has to do with NowSMS.

There is no concept of a "pre-shared key" in the SMPP protocol.

I can only guess that this "pre-shared key" reference has something to do with a VPN setup that is required by your provider. Pre-shared keys are used in L2TP and IPSec, which are VPN protocols.

I believe you need to ask your provider what type of VPN connection is required. Any VPN connectivity is something that must be established independent of NowSMS. Once a VPN is established, you can connect over the VPN with NowSMS. However, the VPN connection itself is something outside the scope of NowSMS.
