Hi everyone,

I know that this subject was approached at many times but I didn't find exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm a french student[sorry for my english :-)] and I am currently in training course in Barcelona. I have to develop an application that send/receive Sms. I'm using a Siemens MC35 Modem but I'm affraid that it is not compatible with "Sms Concatenation".
2 reasons for this: 1)when I send a long Sms from a phone that supports "long messaging", the modem doesn't read correctly the messages(strange caracters at the beginning of each message).
2)I've recently seen that siemens have added to the TC35i(the latest I believe) modem the feature that supports concatenated message( New At Command), which means that older modems don't support concatenation, no?..

So my question is: is it possible to send a concatenated sms from a modem which doesn't support this feature, recreating the UDH for example?..
I don't understand very well how the UDH works so i've downloaded the document in etsi.org, but didn't find exactly UDH related topics...

If you could help me, it would be very nice..

Long life to this site which is really great!..

Concatenated SMS is always sent using UDH.

The modem will typically not assemble or un-assemble the concatenated SMS for you, this must be done in software.

Section 9.2.3.24 of ETSI 03.40 documents all of this.

It is also documented in 3GPP TS 23.040 (same section number).
