I'm slowly learning how to send text messages using AT commands but have a few queries.

Firstly i'm using a Siemens TC35 Terminal (GSM Modem) connected to my computer.

is it possible to get/use delivery reports?
On my mobile if i set delivery reports 'On' i know when people have received my text message or not.

and,

is it possible to replace the sender mobile number with an alphnumeric string? i.e if you send a txt over the internet, where the message is from (e.g Lycos or O2) will appear in the mobile number and the txt can not be replied too. is this possible for me to do? and if so, where do i find out how to do it.

any help or advie would be appreciated

thanks

hey i am not sure if what i am saying is correct, but i am pretty sure i read this somewhere that you can't replace the mobile number with alphanumeric text.. it has something to do with the SMSC even if you are able to replace it at your end.. the receiver will get your phone number... not the text u supplied.

As for the delivery report.. its just a flag you include in your MTI .

Yes ..you can

At the initialization of the Modem

Regarding the Sender as alphanumeric , I think this is not possible , If you are connected directly to the SMSC using SMPP ,you can send any thing as the Sender if the Sender_Type_of_Number is Alphanumeric

As for using the GSM modem , you have less control over this , you can decide if you want to send the message as flash or ordinary for example

You request the delivery report in the PDU header when you submit the message.

You cannot override the sender address when sending via a GSM modem. (There is no field for specifying the sender address. The SMSC will always insert the phone number associated with the modem when it routes the message.)
