I am trying with a Nokia 3100 on port COM2, and I receive the error: "modem not connected". It worked fine with Siemens MC60.

The Nokia IS connected. The Nokia soft works well.

What shall I do?

You receive the error "modem not connected" from what software?

That is not a NowSMS error message that I am aware of.

That said, I'm not sure if the Nokia 3100 has GSM modem capability. But here's a general tip ...

Make sure that you have exited Nokia PC Suite. It might be running minimised and have a tray icon only. If you do not exit Nokia PC Suite, then that software may have the modem port open so that no other software will be able to communicate with it.

Thanks Bryce.

Indeed, 3100 dosn't support NMO. So I am trying with a 6110i.

I succeded once, but during the night it ran out of battery. I reinstalled the DKU driver, it's on COM3. I didn't installed PC Suite again and it is not working.

Hi Andrei,

Can you connect to the modem using HyperTerminal on that port?

In Hyperterminal, you should be able to type ATZ and press Enter ... and get an OK response back.

To check if a modem supports the SMS command set, you can also issue:

AT+CSMS=0
AT+CMGF=0

And both of those should return OK if the SMS command set is supported.

Hi,

I am using a Motorola V555 as a GSM modem and it is working properly in windows. When I try to add the modem to the NowSMS Gateway, I receive an error (attached) stating that "Modem does not support SMS -- Error"

Do I need to use a different phone? Is there something I can do (or something I'm not doing) to get around or through this problem?

Thanks.

The error mesasge "Modem does not support SMS" indicates that the device is a modem, but it does not support the AT commands for sending/receiving SMS.

If you want to confirm this, I'd repeat the advice above.

Connect to the modem using HyperTerminal on that port.

In Hyperterminal, you should be able to type ATZ and press Enter ... and get an OK response back.

To check if a modem supports the SMS command set, you can also issue:

AT+CSMS=0
AT+CMGF=0

Both of those should return OK if the SMS command set is supported.

Here's a discussion thread about phones that will function as modems:
