I've been trying to find the source of corrupted messages on SonyEricsson phones. MMS binaries are received properly by Nokia mobiles but not SEM. I'm aware of the m-send-req feature (we are using m-send-req because we're talking to an MMSC) and I've also encountered the mandatory Date header issue. Actually newer SEM phones (K700i, K750i) still complain about "message corrupt" on Date-less MM binaries but they can save the body parts. But older SEM phones (T610, T630) show a zero-sized body. But here's the wrinkle -- even if an MM binary is Date-less, if its content(s) are wrapped in a SMIL, the T610 can still grab the contents. Are there any other known reasons for MMS incompatibilities in older SonyEricsson phones?

Found the problem. Nokia phones can swallow an MM binary where the Content-Type is multipart.related but there is no accompanying SMIL. SEM phones cannot. Rationally, the SEM phones have the "correct" behavior since they are enforcing the spec.
