Hi All,
I'm new in sms application development. I have a few questions:

a. If I use a gsm/gprs modem, how fast is it? How many messages can it send per minute? How many messages it can receive per minute?
b. If I attach multiple modems to the server, could a gateway like NowSMS speed up the process by automatically routing the outgoing sms to the next available modem?
c. Are there any SMS Simulator out there where in I can test the application before I buy any modem?
d. What should I look for in buying a modem? Any technical specifications I should be looking at? Especially spefications that could increase the number of messages my modem can send or receive?

Thanks,
Czar

According to this link
http://www.developershome.com/sms/GSMModemIntro.asp

The number of SMS messages that can be processed by a GSM modem per minute is very low -- only about six to ten SMS messages per minute.

These 2 links give have some more faqs regarding GSM modem

i have been searching for a GSM modem simulator for the past 2 days but cant find any, i eventually had to borrow one from my colleague.

if you do come-across a simulator, do let me know.

Deepak.

a. If sms over gprs is used, about 30 sms messages per minute can be achieved. See http://www.nowsms.com/support/bulletins/tb-nowsms-006.htm

b. Nowsms supports mulitple gsm modem connections. When submitting an sms message to nowsms, you can set a parameter to tell nowsms which gsm modem in the modem pool should be used to handle the sms. See http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/configuring_smsc_connec tions/GSM_Modems.htm.

c. I also want to find a gsm modem simulator but can't find any. You can use a gsm phone to test your sms application before buying a gsm modem

d. Make sure sms over gprs is supported by the modem and the network operator.
