Hi All:
Just wonder have anyone of you ever encountered WAP Push problem with Samsung C100? It can't receive the WAP URL from NowSMS.

By using WAP OTA Message from NowSMS web interface, I sent to both Nokia and Samsung phones. Nokia phone can receive the message whereas Samsung C100 can't. Any idea to fix it?

Thanks

I would not expect the Samsung C100 to understand a WAP OTA message. The WAP OTA function uses the Nokia/Ericsson OTA specification, and is basically only supported by Nokia and Ericsson phones.

The OMA OTA function in NowSMS uses a new OTA standard published by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA Provisioning Content v1.1), but very few phones support that feature yet. Only some of the very newest models from Nokia, Ericsson and Siemens support that specification (and maybe a few manufacturers that I'm not aware of yet).

I'm not sure if the Samsung C100 supports WAP Push. I'm pretty sure the following version of the C100 does not :

http://www.buy-cheap-electricals.co.uk/Microwaves/Samsung.html

But I also see other Samsung C100 models that look more like phones.

I can't find anything that tells me that the Samsung C100 actually supports WAP Push. For example, at the following web site:

http://uk.samsungmobile.com/mobile_phone/sgh-c100/specification.jsp

The specification for the C100 does not mention WAP push, but WAP push support is mentioned for a couple of other models on that web site.

Are you trying the SI push? Does any indication appear on the phone?

I hve confirmed that the samsung C100 supports WAP push, but not using NowSMS. Is there any way to do this from NowSMS ?

Hi Bryce:

Thanks a lot for reply. Here is more details about the problem I had:

<<Are you trying the SI push?

I think it is using SI push, because I didn't see "WAPSL=1" in the code. So I suppose if it is not specified, it use SI push instead of SL push. Am I right on it?

<< Does any indication appear on the phone?
There is nothing appear on the phone. It doesn't receive anything.

Is there a work around to solve it?

Have you received any other WAP push on this C100?

Does the C100 have a setting perhaps for whether or not WAP push is enabled? (Some phones do have such a setting.)

In the on-line user manual for the C100, I can find no reference at all to WAP push ... which doesn't mean much ... but doesn't offer any help either.

SI push is the default from NowSMS.

I really can't imagine what could be going wrong, other than a setting in the browser that has push disabled ... or a bug in the phone's firmware.

That's why I ask if you have received any other WAP push messages on that phone. If you have, then we can look at what is different between the messages.

Unfortunately, I can't really think of anything else to try. The format that we use for an SI push is very simple, and I can't see any settings that could be tweaked that I could imagine making any difference.

The only idea that I have is to try editing SMSGW.INI, and under the [SMSGW] section header, add BinaryDCS=4. Then restart the NowSMS service, and try again.

If that setting doesn't make a difference, go back into the SMSGW.INI and remove it, so that it doesn't cause any confusion in the future.

Have you tried very simple text and a very simple URL (e.g., test as the text, and http://test as the URL)? I'm just wondering if maybe the phone could have problems specific to a longer URL or longer text in the push as another potential area of problem.

Hi Bryce:

Thanks a lot for your advice. After several trying, NowSMS is finally able to send WAP Push Message to C100. The only thing I added is a Text Parameter. This text parameter is not included in the original code and that code works fine with Nokia phone. Therefore, I think Samsung C100 supports WAP push and a text parameter is needed in the code for the phone to receive alert text.

Thank you
