Ive been pouring over all the information on the site. I believe NowSMS will address everything I require... So now I will ask a few question to verify.

1. Does NowSMS work with T-Mobile?

2. Once NowSMS is setup I can have a PHP webpage send an SMS/MMS to any phone in the US just as if I were sending a text message on my phone directly?

3. If I have an unlimited Text plan with T-Mobile will I be charged anything additional for sending bulk SMS/MMS?

4. What is a cheap phone I can use with T-Moble to send SMS/MMS (Require send only)

5. What is a cheap modem I can use with T-Mobile to send SMS/MMS

6. Are there any PHP/MySQL software / Scripts that integrate with NowSMS (Like PlaySMS) to manage multiple people signing into a portal website to send SMS/MMS to thier address list?

Hi Cory,

1. Overall, T-Mobile seems to be a good option in the US. From the reports that I have seen, basic text SMS and MMS functionality works well. I would expect it to be fine for the needs you describe.

I do have to mention that WAP Push and related protocols (OTA Provisioning) is generally not possible in the US when sending with GSM modems.
WAP push only works when sending to other T-Mobile numbers (which is better than AT&T which blocks all WAP Push). It does not sound like you would be using this, but the problem with posting here is that someone else with different needs will read your question, and assume that all functionality will work.

We have seen reports that T-Mobile 3G capable USB modems are being blocked from sending/receiving MMS.

2.5G (GPRS/EDGE) USB modems, as well as 3G modems that do not support T-Mobile's unique AWS frequency do not appear to have any problems. I know of an installation using an Option ICON 322 on T-Mobile USA's network that has no problems sending/receiving SMS and MMS.

2. That's basically the way that it works. The messages are sent using the same protocol that is used by client software running in a mobile phone.

3. I can't speak about your carrier directly, I do not know of any issues related to them in this area. But I would caution you that most "unlimited" plans have fine print that indicates that it is not really unlimited. In recent months, this has been more of an issue for data access over the mobile networks, not for SMS.

Your provider probably has a "fair use" clause which gives them the option to terminate your service if you are far exceeding their norms. What this means is that if you are sending constantly, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or close to that, your provider may invoke a "fair use" clause.

4&5. These days, I generally recommend using a USB modem instead of a phone, because it's more reliable.

If you're signing up for a new plan with a phone, then you want to avoid most so-called smart phones ... avoid Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Symbian (although Symbian is generally still ok for send-only).

Because of their unique frequencies, T-Mobile has some unusual phones that I'm not familiar with. Looking at the current list of available phones, I'd expect the SonyEricsson Equinox to work, but I can't say for sure.

I'd go with a SIM only, or take the SIM out of the phone and buy an unlocked Option ICON 322 on eBay.

6. I'm not really aware of any scripts that are oriented toward managing address lists. Our built-in web interface does have separate user account based address list capabilities with bulk import capability. And there is a web based API for interfacing with those lists if you want to add some of your own scripts.

Note that if you go with NowSMS Lite, there is a limitation of 10 of these user accounts.
