Hi, I have browsed the web and the forums here with great interests for posts from Bryce about the EMS topic. Bryce says that Extended Objects should be avoided because of compatibility problems with phones; however, this is the only way in EMS to send polyphonic ringtones and colour logos, if I'm correct, which is interesting for me for deployment in countries with no Wap infrastructure. It seems that Extended Objects are in the EMS specs only since Revision 5, December 2001; however, this makes it nearly 3 years old, so I guess even older phones from 2002/2003 should support those? Or the industry didn't implement EMS fully, in favor of MMS? It is very hard to find information on that, since manufacturers don't tell which revision of EMS they support, and you can even see pages stating that a Nokia phone supports EMS although testing a transmission from a SonyEricsson shows it's obviously wrong. Do you guys have any information about actual EMS compatibility with phones, especially for Revision 5 implementing Extended Objects? |
