Hi, Please refer to the following article: http://www.nowsms.com/sms-and-mms-with-the-huawei-e160-usb-modem The Mobile Partner software for the E161 is similar to the E160 software described in that article. I'll go ahead and paste the relevant part here:

to select Tools / Options / Text Message no option to set-> New Message Save Mode "or" Save on SIM / USIM card or device ". there are only options for handling text messages, check show a notification when a new text message arrives and play a sound when a new text message arrives and request delivery report.. what should I do? modem-->3 Mobile BroadBand

Is the software called Mobile Partner, or does it have another name? It appears to be necessary to configure that software to stop removing received SMS messages from the modem. Usually there will be a configuration option somewhere in the modem software to do this. If you cannot find any such option, try configuring the modem software to not automatically launch at PC startup. (Note: We did find with the E160 that the modem had a tendency to lockup after a short time if the modem software was not running, so that may not be a good solution.) An alternative option is to try uninstalling the 3 specific software, and load the generic "Mobile Partner" software from Huawei. I did not have much luck finding a download link directly from Huawei, but the driver on the following page looks promising: http://3g-modem.wetpaint.com/page/Huawei+E161 -- Des NowSMS Support
