Hi,
Can we combine User Data Header for National Language Locking Shift Table and Concatenated SMS?

Concatenated Sms Header:

00 IEI for concatenated sms
03 Information element data length
a1 A reference number
03 This message has 3 parts
01 This is part 1

How can I add language locking shift table header to this header.

Thank you.

Yes, it works just like any other UDH.

UDHL - Overall UDH length
IEI - Information element ID
IEIDL - Information element data length
IED - Information element data
Additional IEs, if any

According to the specifications, shift table IEs are not repeatable (in other words, first segment only).

For example I have a national language shift table header like that:

25 - Locking shift table
01 - IEIDL
02 - IED

And Concatenated Sms Header:

00 IEI for concatenated sms
03 Information element data length
a1 A reference number
03 This message has 3 parts
01 This is part 1

Final User Data Header is like that:
08(Overall UDH length) + 250102 (National Language Header) + 0003A10301 (Concatenated Sms Header)

This not works for me.
What is wrong for that example?

Thank you.

Hi Johnson,

That looks correct to me, as far as combining the two elements into a UDH.

This may be a stupid question ... but ... does the shift table work correctly for you without concatenation? I'm asking in particular because you are requesting a locking shift table for Spanish, and to the best of my knowledge, there is not one. Spanish only has a single shift table.

Beyond this, what exactly is not working? The shift table is not working, text is completely garbled, or concatenation breaks?

Hi Des,
Thank you for answer.
I had written wrongly, you are right. I have used 250101 for locking shift table, concatenation is correct (2 message concatenated in one message), however the characters in the message are not correctly arrived (garbled as you said).

I have splitted original text and generated two stand alone shifted pdu. When I send it, text is completely garbled.

Will we split original text message to obtain two PDUs, or split whole shifted pdu message (data part) that was generated from whole message?

Thank you.

Hi Johnson,

Ok ... so this is Turkish.

If you send a single part message, the encoding is ok?

Are you sending via GSM modem or SMPP or?

If sending via GSM modem, 7-bit encoding is shifted dependent on the length of UDH. I'd probably need to see some actual message examples to offer any assistance.
