Hi All, Can anyone please help me on this. How do mobile phone service providers obtain information about the type of handset that the subscriber uses (If at all it is so)? Can the service providers obtain information on the phone's capabilities such as file formats supported, maximum MMS size etc.. Would appreciate any help. Regards, Santosh | |||

There is no way to find our phone capablities for some older phones that doesn't support 'User Agent Profile' (UAProf) or Capability and Preference Information (CPI). For the newer phone we can detect this if it is implementd at WAP gateway/MMSC end. Whenever the phone, that support UAProf, send a request to WAP GW/MMSC a header is included with the request. This header contains a URL to the location of phone properties. The User Agent Profile (UAProf) specification extends WAP 2.0 i.e. this feature is available only on WAP 2.0 phones. For more details about UAProf or CPI you can find find in OMA specification (WAP-248-UAProf-20011020-a.pdf) Abhishek Pandey |
