hi,
I am puzzle about SDU size. I think it is the size of each transmission in wdp layer. but I find that the server will report error(MRUEXCEEDED) when all the packages' size exceeds the default sdu size(1400). thus I can send package which has a small size(<1400).how can i send more data. Now wtp layer uses SAR.
If a large message, i.e a MMS of 30K, will be sent, how can the client do? If the client will agree on 50K SDU size with server ?

milson,

The SDU size is specified in the WSP connect. So it is an agreement on the max size of a WSP PDU (not WDP).

The client needs to be able to negotiate a larger SDU size with the server in the WSP connect.

You then use WTP SAR to send larger WSP requests, and in general its a good idea to keep individual WDP packets that you generate to around 1400 bytes.

bn,

Thanks for your answer. I want to know more about SDU. For example, I want to send a MMS with size of 50K, if it is need to negotiate Server SDU size as 50K? if yes, why not split 50K into pieces of 1400b, and then send it out.

What can SAR does? It seems it useless.

Yes, you do need to negotiate an SDU of at least 50K in order to do this.

The SDU refers to the WSP layer size limit. SAR occurs at the WTP layer.

You may think it is useless, but if you don't implement it, you won't be able to send your message through many WAP gateways.

Bryce,

What is the reason that when sending an MMS the maximum size is restricted by the WAP GW. From what you describe I do not see any limitation in the size.

And once (E)SAR is implemented the MMS can be larger. I have no clue .....

Thanks
Jamie
