Is there a way to Receive MMS messages from Joe Publics phones (independant of their network provider) to a web service - i.e. forwarded to a web site for processing of pictures etc.

What I would like to do is recieve MMS pictures from the public to my web site for further processing. Does anyone know what is involved to achieve this ?

many thanx (in advance)

Hi,

The cheapest way to do this is to plug a GSM MMS enabled phone into a PC and write something to cull the MMS's off it. I know of someone that tried to do this, and the major problem, apart from throughput was not being able to get the sender number.

There is a script floating around which is a PHP weblogger that enabled you, using a WAP server, to accept MMS's from handsets, but that depends on the person sending the MMS's altering their service settings in the handsets configuration - which isnt ideal if you want MMS's off Joe Public.

There are few operators that offer access to their MMSC's at present to be able to accept MMS, and the process with o2 (one operator which has it live at the moment) is expensive. There are a couple of SMS/MMS companies offering inbound MMS as a service though.

We offer this as a standard service (not meaning to plug too much on a discussion forum...) at http://www.capitext.com, and if you google around you'll find some others that do too.

Regards
Craig
